Nonviolent Peaceforce is in the process of building its capacity to respond to urgent requests for an international presence worldwide. To put in place the solid foundation necessary for such important work, NP is launching a pilot project in Sri Lanka.

Nonviolent Peaceforce has an office in Colombo, and a team which will rise to 50 by the end of 2004, including one Canadian. NP's 50 internationals will provide protective accompaniment, international presence and human rights monitoring to assist People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), the Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies (CHA), and other organisations and individuals who are working to establish a foundation for sustainable peace in Sri Lanka
